Charity Lives at Couture Fashion Week: New York City 2010!
Charity Lives was pleased to be a sponsoring partner of Couture Fashion Week held at the legendary Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City September 10-12, 2010. Founded and produced by designer Andres Aquino the event showcased couture fashion, exhibits of designer luxury brands, and fine art, and was attended by celebrities, upscale consumers, VIP guests, and the press.
Couture Fashion Week supported such causes as “Tuesday’s Children” and “Greater New York City Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure”
Saturday Show Coverage: Designer Ezra Santos (Dubai/Philippines) opened Saturday’s couture show introducing extravagant creations in an atmosphere of tribal music. Styled with African flair, the models gracefully carried magnificent dresses down the runway. Award-winning Zizi Cardow from Nigeria was the next to showcase her amazing collection of bright purple, yellow and rose. A treat of the event was Global Han Couture Design Competition collection, which combined traditional oriental culture with contemporary new spirit creating a refined and noble look. The latest collection of Brazilian designer Simone Rodrigues, presented under the Sisa Designs label, accentuated woman's unique beauty, sensuality, and elegance. However, the ending of the show was beyond everyone’s expectations - Catalin Botezatu of Romania presented a spectacular collection of bird-inspired dresses, dazzling the audience and the press. The peacock prints and beautiful bright colors made you feel like you were in an African Savanna. This exotic show indeed left the audience wanting more.Young and trendy Italian designer Katya Leonovich opened the next showcase of the day, and intrigued everyone with painting of a model’s gown on stage. She was followed by Korean designer Hee Deuk Yang who swept the runway with modern, Eastern flare mixing haute couture with exotic Bohemian touches. The day ended with Mr. Aquino presenting his latest collection inspired by classic romantic Latin songs and lyrics: beautiful couture evening gowns and luxurious cocktail dresses complemented by Alejandra in Design hang-crafted jewelry. Andres Aquino not only managed to delight the audience with his splendid couture show, but also successfully incorporated dance and entertainment.
Sunday Show Coverage: Sunday’s runway was just as spectacular. Nedret Taciroglu wowed everyone with her “tulip-themed” collection. Silk, satin and chiffon dresses embroidered with motifs of tulip paid the dews to femininity and manifested an aura of romance and deep emotion. Siraj Sanad, one of the most influential fashion designers in Saudi Arabia, astonished the audience and photographers with his combination of lavish Arabic calligraphy and New York City spirit. Designer Jack Guisso of Lebanon followed his collection. If one could get away with describing Guisso’s works in one word, it would be amazing! His pale pink, light blue and white themes sang the ode to romance and feminine beauty better than words. In the final showcase of Couture Fashion Week Australian designer Cristina Nitopi made her debut with the presentation of her latest menswear collection introducing an innovative edge to menswear through the use of soft fabrics and sophisticated textures like lace. A new modern luxury look for men easily revealed designer’s Sicilian heritage. I would like to especially note designer Luis Machicao of Peru whose classic style with a touch of avant-garde left a lasting impression of elegance. Accentuating the female form, his gorgeous theatrical dresses added a taste of drama to the show. The last to showcase was Edwing D’Angelo (USA), whose collection depicted classic American theme with retro twist and Marilyn Monroe style. The fashion show saw plenty of entertainment with dance performances from Cecilia Marta Dance Co., singers Angeles Dominguez and Lara Janine, violinist Jane Hunt and many more.
The official event sponsors were MD Minerals by Dr. Janine Hopkins, who provided make-up for the entire show, and cosmetic surgery sponsor Dr. Stephen Greenberg.Couture Fashion Week fulfilled its mission of showcasing art and beauty and supporting honorable causes.
